I'm American

"Love me baby, love me for who I am, Fallen angels singing, "clap your hands," Don't try to take my country, I will defend my land, I'm not crazy, baby, naw, I'm American"

PALM SPRINGS, CA - I've certainly been singing praises of Janelle Monáe since her debut album, The ArchAndroid, was released back in 2010 and to this day she continues to amaze me with her infectious positivity. This woman's remarkable run in music, film and positive outreach only continued with her appearance this past week on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

To the right here is her performance of the closing track 'Americans' on her latest album, Dirty Computer, where she successfully reminds viewers of the greatness of what the merican ideal has always been about, and still can be, whole acknowledging the great progress that has been made and seems to be forgotten as we navigate the hellscape that is the current president and modern-day Republican Party, a once great political party that has succumbed of late to humanity's darkest instincts. On that note, what really struck me was her interview a few minutes prior to her performance. Once you get past the two reminiscing about a White House party some years ago, Ms. Monae's positivity, optimism and intelligence shine through strongly and humbly, and for this softy, brought about tears. Please watch both as I think they may brighten your day as they did for me.
