Andrew Bujalski
There were a lot of refreshing moments in cinema this year, and the lead character of Lisa, so convincingly portrayed by Regina Hall in the latest from "mumblecore" king Andrew Bujalski, is one of the best. Instead of looking at the women working at a Hooters-like bar as another excuse for jokes and comedy, they are instead nurtured and protected by Lisa, allowing the audience to respect the women as people just navigating the crazy world we've created as best they can.
