Dead Can Dance

Dionysus

The version of Dead Can Dance that has been with us for nearly 25 years now has been more of a tribal, gothic, world music sound, beginning with the release of ''Spiritchaser in 1996. While it appeared to turn away a fair percentage of their fanbase that got into them because they were both rightfully and wrongfully pinned with the goth scene of the 1980s, they've garnered new fans, and even more devoted fans like myself with their increasingly cinematic, and groove-filled sound. Dionysus continues this vision, albeit with a shorter than usual album, and far less of Lisa's incredible singing. And yet, it's as perfect as ever. Essential.
